Kohl’s Cares Clifford Toy
Each piece is priced at $5, with 100 percent of the net profit benefiting children’s health initiatives nationwide. While you know Clifford is a big dog, you may not know the reason why. Read on to learn more about the crimson canine and Norman Bridwell, the author/illustrator that created him.
The first Clifford book, Clifford the Big Red Dog, was published in 1963.
Clifford was the runt of the litter, but Emily Elizabeth gave him so much love, he grew to be over 25 feet tall.
Clifford is red because Bridwell thought that color would work well with the blue sky and green grass he had painted.
There are more than 126 million Clifford books in print in 13 languages.
Norman Bridwell's manuscript was rejected by several publishers before Scholastic bought it.
Clifford’s owner, Emily Elizabeth is named after Bridwell’s daughter Emily Elizabeth.
Tiny was going to be Clifford’s original name, but Bridwell changed it and named him after his wife’s imaginary childhood friend.
Clifford has the characteristics of a giant Vizsla, a sporting dog breed originating in Hungary.
The giant pup’s parents and siblings were all normal-sized dogs.
Bridwell shared this advice with authors and illustrators of children’s books: “Sometimes you’ll do something that you really like and no one else does. You’ll feel terrible, but you've just got to press on and keep trying."
We know this new Kohl’s Cares collection is something the entire family with love! It is available at Kohl’s stores and on Kohls.com until mid-September.
