A New School Year has Begun! Find Out What People Are Stocking Up on This Back-to-School Season

The start of a new school year is officially underway and this year, Kohl’s customers are making their school wardrobe and shopping preferences known as they head back to the classroom. Find out what is trending among customers this back-to-school season:

  • Athleisure and Casual Styles are Standout: It’s clear the active and casual wardrobe is here to stay. Customers across all genders, ages and sizes are gravitating toward athleisure looks from brands like Nike, adidas, Under Armour and Champion, as well as lifestyle brands including Vans and Hurley. Matching head-to-toe sets are especially popular among shoppers and early transitional styles in cotton, fleece and pants are also resonating with customers.

  • Cue the Color: Bold colors and prints are popular among kids and teens as they look to stand out as individuals more than ever. In fact, Kohl’s is seeing a more dramatic shift in all demographics - men, women, teens, and kids - choosing color compared to previous seasons.

  • Comeback Categories: Categories that were in less demand last year due to the atypical back-to-school seasons, picked up steam this year. School uniforms, denim and backpacks are  increasing in popularity as kids are headed back to the classroom. For those going back to college, Kohl’s is seeing customers gravitate towards home items, in particular, products like pillows and bed rests, storage items and bedding.

  • Styles for More than Just the First Day: Customers aren’t just building their back-to-school wardrobe in the summer. Kohl’s is seeing shoppers continue to stock up for the first day and beyond as they see what their friends are wearing and the weather gets cooler, causing a shift in styles.
