Kohl’s Brings Joy to Boys & Girls Clubs of America Youth this Back-to-School Season
This summer, we expanded on our partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to help bring joy to youth across the country as they prepare for the upcoming school year. Through the Kohl’s Cares Shopping Grant program and a one-of-a-kind dorm room shopping experience in our hometown of Milwaukee, we continued our mission of supporting family health and wellness.
This marked the first year of the Kohl’s Cares Shopping Grant program, and more than 120 Clubs each received a $2,000 grant to purchase items unique to their kids’ and Clubs’ needs. Youth shopped for the latest trends in clothes, sneakers, backpacks, and essentials items, while Club staff sought out toys, small appliances and cozy seating to help build out Social-Emotional Learning spaces, kitchens and areas for teens to hang out.
The smiles didn’t stop with the kids, as store teams across the country shared how meaningful hosting back-to-school shop events was for them.
And, for one extraordinary Milwaukee-area teen, Kohl’s support meant helping to alleviate some stress as she prepared to head off to college.
Loren Muwonge was recognized as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee Youth of the Year winner for her outstanding contributions to the local community. We wanted to do our part to honor her and ensure she’s ready for her freshman year at Spelman College in Atlanta and surprised her with $750 in gift cards to deck out her dorm room. With her gift cards, Loren picked out everything she needed to make her new dorm feel comfortable and welcoming.
Kohl’s Cares has proudly supported BGCA since 2019. In 2022, we renewed our commitment to BGCA with a $10 million donation over three years to support the development and delivery of trauma-informed training to Club staff. Additionally, Kohl’s Cares is a Signature Sponsor of the Youth of the Year program.
