Providing Disaster Support Following Harvey and Irma

Kohl’s is committed to making a positive impact in communities where we live and work

When two major hurricanes hit the United States back to back, Kohl’s and its associates responded quickly to help people impacted by the storms. From ensuring that our associates were safe, to providing donations to the American Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts, Kohl’s is there to support our associates and the communities where we live and work.

Supporting Our Associates
The safety and security of our associates is of the utmost importance. Prior to the storms hitting, Kohl’s closed stores in advance to allow associates to better prepare, including evacuating if necessary. After the disaster, Kohl’s worked to contact every associate in impacted areas to ensure they were safe.

One Kohl’s store in Humble, Texas, remains closed due to damage from Hurricane Harvey. All associates at the Humble location were given the opportunity to continue working at neighboring Kohl’s stores.

For associates who were deeply affected by these natural disasters, we are offering short-term financial support through the Kohl’s associate relief fund. This support is intended to help with basic needs as associates recover and rebuild immediately following a natural disaster. Kohl’s is providing financial assistance to associates who have been directly and significantly impacted by the storms.

In addition, Kohl’s associates donated thousands of items to those impacted by the storms including apparel and shoes, sheets and towels and personal care items.

Supporting Our Communities
Kohl’s donated $2 million to the American Red Cross to immediately support disaster relief services include safe shelter, food and comfort for families in need. For the first time, both in-store and on Kohls.com, Kohl's encouraged our associates and customers to donate to the American Red Cross.

To further help those impacted by the storms, Kohl’s offered a special 35% discount to customers and associates in Houston in September. In impacted areas of Florida, Georgia and Alabama, the same 35% discount will be available from October 5-9.

Kohl’s is known for the power of its associate volunteer program, and associates are encouraged to volunteer in support of relief and clean-up efforts. To date, Kohl’s associates have participated in 57 events, resulting in $57,000 in grants to help communities impacted by both hurricanes. And more volunteer events are in the works. To inquire about coordinating a Kohl’s volunteer program event, contact a local Kohl’s store and ask to speak with the store manager. Find the nearest Kohl’s by visiting Kohls.com.

In addition, nearly 200 associates on Kohl’s Technology team came together to assemble 4,500 comfort kits for the American Red Cross. These kits contain basic hygiene and personal items for individuals who have been displaced from their homes as a result of these natural disasters.

At Kohl’s, we are proud of our associates for uniting to support our colleagues and communities to show the power of coming together and helping others in times of need.
