Kohl’s Wins Corporate Citizen of the Year Award

10/10/2016

Kohl’s was named Corporate Citizen of the Year by the Milwaukee Business Journal.

Richard Schepp, Kohl’s chief administrative officer, accepted the Corporate Citizen of the Year award on behalf of the company in front of a large audience of local business leaders at the Corporate Citizen Summit in downtown Milwaukee.  At Kohl’s, giving back is central to who we are as a company and it is our mission to support organizations and causes that matter to our associates and customers.

Giving back is important to Kohl’s because it makes good business sense.  For associate engagement, 74% of associates say their job is more fulfilling when they are provided with opportunities to make a positive impact at work. It’s not just for our associates; our customers also expect this level of commitment.  91% of global consumers expect companies to do more than make a profit, they expect an organization to also address social and environmental issues.

We have a committed team of 140,000 associates who support organizations they care about through volunteerism. In 2015, through Kohl’s Volunteer Program, our associates contributed nearly 500,000 volunteer hours and 100 percent of our stores participated in events. Additionally, Kohl’s has raised nearly $300 million through our Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise program.  The $5 books and toys are available at Kohl’s stores nationwide and on Kohls.com, with 100 percent of the net profit benefitting children’s initiatives across the country.

In addition to our national giving, we believe in giving back in the Milwaukee area, where our company got its start. To date, Kohl’s and Kohl’s Cares have committed nearly $94 million and partnered with incredible organizations like Penfield Children’s Center, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and Hunger Task Force  to provide support that allows them to deliver critical programming and services to families.  We are inspired and in awe of the work they do each and every day and are grateful be in a position to assist.

Together with our partners, our associates and our customers, we are teaming up to build a better community, not just in here in Milwaukee, but across the country.
