Spotlight on Kohl’s renewable energy program

As the days of summer sunshine grow longer, we are proud to highlight the efforts in renewable energy at Kohl’s, starting with our solar energy program. Kohl’s was recently ranked in the Top 10 on the EPA Green Power Partnership’s Top 30 Retail List, and solar has played a big part in this Sustainability award.

Kohl’s is committed to this renewable, sustainable resource. To that end, solar energy technology continues to evolve, making it not only renewable energy but more efficient energy.

As to Kohl’s, we started out with about 38,000 solar panels on the rooftops of 19 California stores in 2007. The number has grown to more than 200,000 panels at our stores, distribution centers, e-fulfillment centers and corporate offices with each rooftop system providing up between 20-50% of the building’s energy needs.

Some specifics:

  • Over 200,000 solar panels on 163 Kohl’s rooftops around the country
  • 9 solar trees between our Kohl’s Innovation Center in Menomonee Falls, Wis., and our customer service operation center in Dallas, Tex.
  • Our largest solar array system at our Edgewood, Md. e-Fulfillment Center generates 2.3 MW of power with over 8,000 panels

Our company is committed to this economical and renewable resource. In fact, Kohl’s signed the American Business Act Pledge on Climate Change back in 2015. We will continue to look for sustainable initiatives that empower the company and the climate.
