It’s a flurry of activity as makeup artists and stylists prep models for the latest brand photo shoot. Soon fun, upbeat music blasts through the room and a photographer clicks away capturing every angle.
It won’t be long before those very images make their way into homes nationwide. What might surprise you is that this photo shoot, and hundreds of others, don’t take place in New York or Los Angeles, they happen every day at Kohl’s Photo Studio in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
A short drive from our corporate headquarters you’ll find nearly 40 photo teams working together to bring Kohl’s brands to life. Inside our Kohl’s Photo Studio you’ll find our dedicated team of associates putting their creative talents to work on imagery that shows up everywhere from your weekly ads to nearly every element of Kohls.com.
“From models, makeup artists and stylists to production assistants and art directors, we have the top professionals in the business working at the Kohl’s Photo Studio,” said Basil Bearer, Kohl’s director of the photo studio. “Our team creates thousands of images a week that truly capture the essence of the Kohl’s brand and tell our story. It’s an incredible asset to Kohl’s to have these professionals exercising their talents in this state of the art facility.”
Built in 2008, Kohl’s Photo Studio boasts more than 100,000 square feet of artistic space including 35 photo bays, a digital photo lab, a fully equipped carpentry shop, a 2,000-square-foot prop room, seven hair and make-up rooms and rooftop shooting space for outdoor photography. Additionally, the Photo Studio is on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) criteria and is the only LEED-certified photo studio in the country.
Our Photo Studio team collaborates on projects that drive Kohl’s business forward, and they even find time to leverage their creativity and a little friendly competition to give back to the community. Each year, associates take part in a fun-filled charitable derby day, complete with hand-built wooden cars, themed outfits and fast car races, and have raised more than 6,000 pounds of food to date for families in need in the Milwaukee area.
