Kohl’s Included on Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America for Sixth Consecutive Year

For the sixth consecutive year, Kohl’s has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) North America by S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). Kohl's is proud to be one of only seven U.S.-based companies in the Consumer Discretionary Distribution and Retail category on the DJSI North America. Some of the ways Kohl’s put the company’s environmental, social and governance goals into action in 2022 to achieve DJSI North America inclusion include: 

  • Recording a 49% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions versus the company’s 2014 baseline 
  • Hosting more than 160 solar arrays around the country, allowing many Kohl’s stores to get up to 50% of their energy from solar 
  • Establishing environmental standards for strategic suppliers over five categories that will be assessed for compliance in 2023 
  • Adding new packaging technology at select e-fulfillment centers, allowing Kohl's to right-size bag materials by automatically trimming it to fit the merchandise 
  • Sourcing more than 96% of Kohl’s-owned apparel and accessories plastic packaging from certified or recyclable content and sourcing more than 76% of Kohl’s-owned printed labels on garments from certified recycled content. 

More than 13,000 companies worldwide were invited to complete the CSA, but only 3,500 companies were eligible for inclusion in any DJSI. The DJSI North America tracks the performance of the top 20% of the 600 largest Canadian and U.S. companies in the S&P Global Broad Market Index that lead the field in terms of sustainability.
