About Kohl's
Company
History
The first Kohl’s department store opened in Brookfield, Wisconsin in 1962. When the company went public in 1992, there were 76 Kohl’s stores in the Midwest. Kohls.com launched in 2001, giving Kohl’s an online presence that has grown and evolved over the years. In 2003, we opened 28 stores in California, giving Kohl’s a coast-to-coast presence for the first time in our history. That growth and expansion continued over the years and Kohl’s now operates more than 1,100 stores in 49 states, along with the powerful e-commerce platform of Kohls.com.

Corporate Locations
Kohl’s Corporate Headquarters is located in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, and houses the majority of Kohl’s corporate associate teams — from merchandising and marketing to members of Operating Committee. Associates at Kohl’s headquarters work with Kohl’s store teams and other corporate locations across the country to make Kohl’s a best-in-class omnichannel retailer. Located nearby, Kohl’s Photo Studio, Kohl’s Innovation Center and a Kohl’s Credit Center are also in Menomonee Falls, Wis.
Opened in June 2015, the Kohl’s Innovation Center houses collaborative space that brings our information technology, store planning, construction, and purchasing teams under one roof. Kohl’s Innovation Center also boasts green features, including solar trees, electric vehicle charging stations, LED lighting, and several waste-reduction efforts to help Kohl’s ensure we leave the planet a little better than we found it.
Kohl’s opened its original New York design office (NYDO) in January 2007 and moved to its current location at 1400 Broadway in 2010. The NYDO allows Kohl’s to have a presence in the heart of New York’s thriving fashion district, as well as to be close to the design source and management of exclusive partnerships. In addition to our large design team at Kohl’s corporate office in Wisconsin, the NYDO has a staff of designers, trend experts, artists, and product developers who manage the design and development of our brands.
