2022 Healthier Generation Family & Community Engagement Award presented by Kohl’s celebrates schools that are creating a more equitable, inclusive, and healthy future for children and families.
Through our partnership with Alliance for a Healthier Generation, Kohl’s is proud to honor schools who excel at health and wellness for students, families and educators.
America’s Healthiest Schools 2022
Recognizing this, we are excited to announce that Healthier Generation’s 2022 award application is now open. All awardees will be featured in a national celebration of America’s Healthiest Schools this fall.
The Healthier Generation Award is a prestigious, annual distinction presented to schools that have demonstrated remarkable efforts to prioritize the essential health needs of students, staff, and families. Schools can receive awards in each of the following topic areas:
- Family & Community Engagement Presented by Kohl’s - Facilitating collaborations to meet student, family, and caregiver needs alongside student learning and development
- Nutrition and Food Access - Promoting and increasing healthy eating and food access through school nutrition programs and nutrition education
- Local School Wellness Policy - Implementation of the district’s wellness policy
- Health Education - Defined educational experiences for students to gain health literacy, make healthy decisions, and adopt health promoting behavior
- Physical Education and Activity - Opportunities for students to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to develop and sustain lifelong physical activity practices
- Social-Emotional Health & Learning - Supporting the social-emotional, mental, and behavioral health of students
- Staff Well-Being - Helping staff build and maintain resilience through policies and practices that support individual and collective well-being
- Tobacco-Free Schools - Implementation of the district tobacco-free policy
- School Health Services - Providing services to address and prevent health concerns, health emergencies, and chronic health conditions
Schools apply for recognition based on criteria in Healthier Generation’s Thriving Schools Integrated Assessment, an evidence-based tool that helps schools identify strengths and opportunities for improving policies and practices that promote health and learning.
Family & Community Engagement Award presented by Kohl’s
The Family & Community Engagement Award is an extension of Kohl’s Healthy at Home, a family health and wellness initiative that offers free family wellness resources to help families to create healthier home environments in which everyone can thrive. On the Kohl’s Healthy at Home website, families can explore educational toolkits, family bonding activities, self-care tips for parents and many other resources that will provide families with simple ideas and inspiration and help kids feel confident while in the classroom, either in person or virtually.
In January 2021, 96 schools nationwide were awarded the Family Engagement Distinction by Healthier Generation and Kohl’s. This year we are building on that success and look forward to celebrating the successes of even more school communities.
Schools can apply now for the 2022 Healthier Generation Family & Community Engagement Award by visiting Healthier Generation’s website. Healthier Generation will be accepting applications through April 29, 2022. All awardees will be featured in Healthier Generation’s national celebration of America's Healthiest Schools.
Community Partnerships
